Navigation

Qlik Sense Designer training

In this training we start with a demo app where you learn how to navigate between the individual worksheets and sections.

You will learn how to open and use a published app as an analyst and how to make the best use of the Qlik Sense functions.

Selections

Qlik Sense Designer training

With selections you ask a question and Qlik Sense answers with the green-white-grey principle.

This is the most important principle in the analysis and we will discuss it in detail and try it out with lots of small exercises.

Intelligent search

Qlik Sense Designer training

In addition to the selections, you can use the intelligent search in Qlik Sense to search specifically for data and its correlations.

We will also cover this with small tasks which will teach you how to find information and immediately see how the data relates to each other.

You will use a demo app to learn how to navigate between the individual worksheets and sections.

Create an app

Qlik Sense Designer training

In this scenario-based training you are given the task of creating a sales analysis for a fictitious company. The objective is to take a closer look at the turnover and especially the margins.

To do this, you will create a completely new Qlik Sense app, which you will then expand into a full analysis over the course of the training.

You will learn about the different objects and how to use them in analysis.

Load data

Qlik Sense Designer training

Your new Qlik Sense app needs to be populated with data first, this is the foundation for any analysis.

You will learn about the Data Manager and its graphical interface, that will help you load the data and link the tables correctly.

You will also learn how to create calculated fields and automatically transform the loaded data.

Master Items

Qlik Sense Designer training

Once all the data is loaded, you will be introduced to the Qlik Sense Master Items.

You will create Master Dimensions and Measures for your analysts, which can be used in the adhoc analysis via drag & drop.

This way you ensure that all analysts use the correct KPIs and simplify their daily work.

Sales analysis

Qlik Sense Designer training

After the data has been loaded and the Master Items are ready, you start building the actual Qlik Sense sales analysis.

You will create different worksheets and each one will use different charts or perhaps previously used charts, just in a new variation.

With each worksheet, new things are added, so your knowledge is constantly expanded.

Alternate states

Qlik Sense Designer training

Analysts often want to start unusual analyses and therefore need a lot of flexibility in the Qlik Sense app.

Using Alternative States, your analysts can compare any number of different data sets and contrast the results.

You will encounter two variations that will give your analysts all the possibilities to compare selections.

Set Analysis

Qlik Sense Designer training

One of the most important functionalities in Qlik Sense is Set Analysis.

Es wird kaum eine Kennzahl in Deinem Unternehmen geben, die Du ohne ihn berechnen kannst.

It makes sure you can do year-on-year comparisons or ask Qlik Sense: Which customer has bought product A but never product B?

We will create a dynamic YoY comparison and a chart that only looks at the YTD period.

Variables

Qlik Sense Designer training

Next, you will learn how to use Qlik Sense variables. What they can do, how to create them and how to use them in your analysis.

We will create a what-if analysis and you will also learn how to use them to show and hide objects and KPIs.

You will create two buttons for this and use them to show and hide a KPI.

Storytelling

Qlik Sense Designer training

Another brilliant thing about Qlik Sense is the storytelling.

You will learn how to create a story and present exactly the part of your analysis that is your focus in the next meeting.

You will also learn how to send a story as a PowerPoint or PDF after the meeting.

Best Practices

Qlik Sense Designer training

Once your analysis is done, let's talk about a very important point: what are the best practices for Qlik Sense?

You will learn how to optimally design your Qlik Sense apps to ensure optimal speed and what you should pay attention to to avoid unnecessary workloads on your Qlik Sense server.

Daten modellieren

Qlik Sense

Data Architect

In this training you will learn how to use Qlik Sense to quickly and easily model complex data models using data from various data sources.

Databases, local files such as Excel and text files, are all covered in this in-depth training.

In many hands-on exercises you try out all the techniques and learn in which situation you should use which technique. We contribute our experience from our customer projects over the last 14 years.

You will also learn the best practices for optimal performance and, of course, the permissions on the data you control with Section Access. This way you ensure that everyone only sees the data they are allowed to see.

Like the Designer training, this course is based on a real-life scenario. You are tasked with creating a data model for a sales analysis and need to combine, transform, aggregate and then provide the data from very different systems to the Qlik Sense designers.

Basics

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

In this training we start with the basics of data modelling in Qlik Sense.

We talk about the role concept, the breakdown of the apps, the DAR principle and a suitable requirements document.

So everything you should consider right at the beginning of your project.

Hub and Data Editor

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

You will learn about the hub and the Data Editor, where you will create the script to load, transform and aggregate the data.

The powerful Data Editor in Qlik Sense can do a lot and you will learn all the basics and important data modelling techniques during the training as we develop the script piece by piece.

Synthetic Keys

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

As you load the first tables, fields and data into your new Qlik Sense app, you quickly stumble across the Synthetic Keys.

They're yuck and you'll learn why you should avoid them at all costs.

You learn about different methods, how to avoid synthetic keys and when exactly which method is the right one.

This prevents your app from becoming slow and sluggish.

Data model

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

Even if it seems so unimpressive and simple, the Data Model view is one of the most important tools in your Qlik Sense app, because it gives you an immense amount of important information about the structure of your data model and the integrity of your data.

When a new table is loaded, the first thing we do is check the data model and you learn how to interpret the important information correctly.

Structuring scripts

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

Who likes to work in an untidy workshop?

Wahrscheinlich niemand. Alles muss man suchen, weil nichts dort ist, wo es hingehört. Alles ist kreuz und quer durcheinander.

This can easily happen to you in a Qlik Sense script, so you will learn how to structure and organise your script neatly.

To do this, you will get to know the sections and comments that will help you to structure your script clearly.

Data connections

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

Whatever data you want to load with your script, you need a data connection - you will learn about this in this training.

Qlik Sense can tap into a lot of different data sources and load the data - for this, of course, Qlik Sense needs to communicate correctly with the data source.

We will load data from a database and various files, including Excel, text and XML files.

Transforming data

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

A very important technique when loading data is transformation.

The data is almost never stored in the data source in the way it is needed for the analysis.

In addition, Qlik Sense loads the data across systems and in each system the data is stored differently.

In this training you will learn the basic techniques of data transformation in Qlik Sense and when to use which method.

Aggregations

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

Besides transformation, aggregation of data is sometimes an important tool.

Although Qlik Sense ideally does the aggregation of data on the surface to ensure maximum flexibility in analysis, it may sometimes be necessary to apply aggregation as soon as the data is loaded.

You will learn in which situations aggregation is necessary and how you can best implement it in the Qlik Sense script to calculate KPIs or compress the data.

Multilayer loading

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

Similar to a data warehouse (DWH), loading data into Qlik Sense in multiple layers is a good idea.

There is a layer for extracting data, a layer for transformation and aggregation, and finally the distribution to all apps.

This is to avoid erroneous data, duplicate calculations and unnecessary loading times.

In this training you will learn the best practices and how to create an optimal data flow. You will also learn about the Qlik Sense QVD files that are at the core of this practice.

Optimal performance

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

A very important topic is the best practices for optimal performance on your Qlik Sense server - and as a data architect you can contribute a lot to this.

You learn how to avoid performance problems with optimal data models and loading processes and what you should pay attention to.

Since Qlik Sense uses in-memory technology, some things are different from what you might be used to with relational databases. We will go into these differences.

Qlik Sense workflows

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

Your app is ready - now what?

You will learn about the development workflow in Qlik Sense and how to publish apps into streams.

Also, how to continue developing published apps and then republish them.

These workflows can help you optimise your daily work with Qlik Sense and you will learn about the permissions behind them.

Section Access

Qlik Sense Data Architect training

The last topic will be Section Access, which is always implemented at the very end in practice.

Section Access controls, among other things, access to the app, but most importantly, who is allowed to see what data in a Qlik Sense app.

When not all analysts are allowed to see all of the app's data, but only part of it, depending on the user, this is precisely what Section Access controls.

You will learn how Section Access works, how to plan it and how to integrate it into your Qlik Sense data model.
